On February 10th, at Aisle 5, DaSean Taylor saw Parrotice preform for the first time. A week later, we sat down with the local Atlanta DJ, Jon Shuttleworth, to find out more about his music and whats happening in the local scene.

Jazzy: So Jon, tell us a little about yourself, what brought you down here and what kind of music do you play?

Jon: Well I'm mainly a dubstep DJ, I'm really into hip hop and beat music too. I came down here about a year ago, basically to play music with a bunch of friends that were already down here doing it. My friend Hunter Leigon, a drum and bass DJ here, brought me on for a residency for the first couple months I was playing here. I met everyone and got shown a lot of love every time I came down. Everyone was into what I was doing, and actually really supportive. That’s how I met people like Ployd, and Organiks, who are DJ's who have been doing it forever and they were like, "Hey man, we appreciate what you're doing." And I felt it, so I moved down here and I've really just been trying to dig my heels in and pay my dues to the scene.

Jazzy: Who are your top 5 favorite artists and who you draw inspiration from?

Jon: I draw inspiration from so much that you wouldn't even think of. I grew up in a punk background, and listened to everything from Slayer to Integrity to Infest. Then, I moved onto beat music and hip hop before I got into dubstep, so I pull from everything. I listen to a lot of Flying Lotus, J. Dilla… and as far as the dubstep scene goes I really just like all the local homies besides the couple big producers I've always listened to. But pretty much everyone in the scene down here is impressive, and it's awesome to see so much talent and appreciation for each other. There's not a whole lot of egos down here in the dubstep scene, it's like one big family that all want to see each other do well. We got Mantis, Clerks, Dan Brown and Block Society, Midnight Pandas is pulling the trap game pretty hard, I mentioned Organiks…. My homie JuJu Beats is doing a lot, my friend Leigon is killin it with the drum and bass. Everyone's really just doing their thing, which is really what drew me to the scene down here.
