Song of the Week: Dock Ellis by Doesin

One of my favorite local bands in Atlanta by the name of Doesin, have made their psychedelic musical talent a force to be reckoned with after the June 12th release of their single, “Dock Ellis”. This song is their first release since their freshman album, It Gets Bad Sometimes, which dropped last July. For years they’ve been putting out some of the most original alternative music heard in the scene. Their hometown shows are usually packed out with people eager to see the charismatic trio, made up of Austin Adkins, vocalist and guitarist, Andrew Venet, bassist, and Tyler Reddick on drums. The song begins with a guy telling a story, “We flew into San Diego, and I asked the manager could I go home, since we had an off day, so he said yeah. So I took some LSD at the airport, ‘cuz I knew where it would get me.” The man continues on as the guitars begin laying down the funk and driving the song. The chorus comes in, strong and vigorously, with lines like, “Dock Ellis pitched a no-hitter/ While tripping LSD/ Ain't no other ballplayer/ Got shit on me” At a running time of four minutes and fifty five seconds, Doesin has truly outdone themselves with this single. Not only is the whole song impressive, the album artwork, done by Jay Cost, compliments their sound so perfectly. “Dock Ellis” is currently streaming on the group’s Bandcamp, and will be released on a 7” vinyl split along with Spacewasters new song “Black Friday”. By pre-ordering the vinyl, you get an instant free digital download of “Dock Ellis”. If you haven’t heard it, go take a listen, and support your local artists. We will make sure to keep you all updated on any new releases from Doesin, and be sure to check back for an exclusive interview soon!
